Interacting with educational-related twitter accounts such as the U.S Department of education and education week have kept me "plugged in". Staying up to date on new information, resources, and educators. Twitter can be a beneficial tool to stay connected especially later on in my career as times change. Constantly improving as an educator with educators around me.
The digital divide can prevent students success by limiting the work they can do outside the classroom. Assigning homework that requires the internet or technologies not available to them can cause issues with completing those assignments. This can be caused by the location, such as a rural town, or the socioeconomic status of the family. As a classroom teacher I should be mindful of the technologies available to students at home and make sure assignments are not giving students with technology an advantage.
I would like to implement Microsoft Word which can allow for word processing and a number of tools for creative projects. In the workplace this could be a very useful software to have knowledge of and help to close the digital divide for students who do not know how use it. Edmodo is another I would use to teach responsible communication through the use of posting pictures, gifs, video, and memes. This type of "academic social media" can help to prepare students for their own social medias and how to use them responsibilty without spreading misinformation.
