  Copyright is a protection for people's intellectual property which means others must follow guidelines in order to use the property and those who have ownership have priviledges to use it how they please. Fair use is apart of the Copyright Act of 1976 that states that copyrighted material can be used for nonprofit and educational purposes. Since fair use has to be used within reason using a limited amount of the material, it is important to convey these ideas to students. Students should know that not everything on the internet is free to take from and that their own works can be protected through copyright. Having activities that ultilize citation and fair use could be beneficial for students as well as for me, as a teacher, modeling the respect they should show to intellectual property.   For me personally, using Microsoft Word as a student has been great! It's convienent and simple enough. Besides the occasional alignment struggles, it's helped me get the job done on multiple occasions. I don't see any significant changes between word processing softwares, so I mostly just stick with word.  The Citizen Standard (2.3) is important to K-12 as the digital world becomes more and more prominent. It essentially focuses on students being responsible citizens of the online world. To me, being able to cite credibile sources or see misinformation, be ethical and mindful of a digital footprint, and protecting sensitive information is critical to surviving in the digital world. Having an idea of what's real and what's not will help keep them informed and not filled with false facts. Realizing that things you say or do is on the internet forever is so important to their future endeavours. This goes along with making sure they stay a private citizen on the web....

Hi!  My name is Matthew Natal and I am currently enrolled in EME2040 at Florida State University!  I am a history major and plan to later teach history to students of all ages.  I love to work with kids as I am a substitute teacher currently, also working after school for an extended day program, and during the summer work as a camp counselor! I also enjoying reading and writing about history and can't wait to use this Education Technology class to my advantage.  In the past I have used smart boards to conduct lessons and music to create a calm and relaxing environment for learning. I have used powerpoint and word to convey key points and give illustration to those points. Zoom is of course a big one when connecting with others digitally. I would say videoeditor apps have also been vital for content creation as well.  My PLN as a university student and young adult mostly revolves around me staying up to do date with university information and my classes, as well...
